Day 3: How I Met My Valentine!

I actually met my husband in high school.  S says the first time he noticed me was in theater class.  I was a junior and he was a senior.  We performed a scene from The Death of a Salesman together.  I vaguely remember performing this scene.  I do not remember him being in my theater class.  I remember flirting with him.  I remember him being on the art trip to Pittsburgh.  He doesn't remember me being on that trip.  He doesn't remember me cheering for his basketball team, but he does remember that I was a cheerleader.  And he remembers that he liked the way my butt looked in acid washed jeans with no pockets!

I re-met my husband during my divorce from my practice marriage (that's what S calls it).  I had posted on Facebook about being tired of being sick and he posted that he hoped I felt better soon.  I remember thinking it was odd because I hardly knew him even in high school, but it was nice.  The next month, I posted something and he posted a witty reply. Every month for the next few months, it was the same, I would post something and he'd post something smart and funny in reply. (He says this was all part of his 23 year plan to woo me.)

One day, I looked him up and thought he looked cute in his picture so I messaged him and asked what he had been doing with his life.  He replied and told me about going to school and raising his girls.  We messaged back and forth for a while.  I decided that somehow it would be safer to have him text me than call me, even though that meant he had my phone number, either way.  Don't make fun!  It made sense to me at the time!

So we started texting and he always made me laugh!  I LOLed a lot!  It was nice.

One Thursday, I cancelled a date I didn't want to go on and asked if he wanted to meet me half way.  (Did I mention he lived in North Carolina and I lived in Pennsylvania?)  He replied immediately, "YES!"  So we made plans to meet in Woodstock, VA.  For those following along who use Mapquest (or any other mapping program) Woodstock is NOT half way, but S said he liked to drive and I had a small window of opportunity with childcare.  Plus, I had read a book that took place in Woodstock, VA (The Wednesday Letters) and even thought it's not THE Woodstock, I thought it would be cool to say that our first date was in Woodstock, so that's where we met.

It was THE BEST FIRST DATE EVER!!!!!!

We walked and talked and held hands and kissed.  I accidentally kissed him when we first met in the parking lot of the B&B.  He says I fell into his face, but I was actually going to kiss him on the cheek and he turned so I got the lips instead!  Ooops!  I remember thinking, "Wait! How did that happen?" But there was nothing I could do so I just laughed and off we went.

He took me out for dinner and we walked around historic downtown Woodstock where everything was closed.  In the morning, we ate breakfast at the B&B (we had separate beds in case the moms are reading this) and went to a neighboring town to walk around that had shops open on Sunday mornings.  We kissed at least once in every room of every shop we went into!  We would walk with our arms around each other and I felt like it fit.  It was comfortable and exciting at the same time.

We've never gone back to Woodstock.  I think we're both a little afraid it won't live up to our perfect memories.

We've been married almost two years now and I'm happier than I've ever been.  I'm so lucky that I met my Valentine in high school and I am so thankful to Mark Zuckerburg for inventing Facebook so I could meet him again 23 years later!
